The food industry increases sales by using food dyes to simulate the presence of healthy, colorful fruits and vegetables. Common dyes derived from petroleum include Red 40, Red 3, Blue 1, Blue 2, Green 3, Yellow 5, Yellow 6, and Orange B (restricted to use in sausage & hot dog casings).
The FDA acknowledges that dyes increase hyperactivity in kids, cancer (in animal studies), and allergic reactions yet they have done nothing to remove these. As a matter of fact, companies use dyes so they can target children and lure them to eat more junk food.
In Europe, food dyes are almost completely banned. The sad part is U.S. companies export foods to Europe without chemical dyes and other toxic ingredients, but they are willing to feed our children the most toxic substances. How do you explain that? They already have the formula for a “healthy version.”
