We all know that we need to exercise but this exercise hack is the key to weight loss.  Let’s understand why, how, and when to exercise for weight loss.

Why Exercise for Weight Loss

For many of us, we exercise because we believe that if we lose weight, we will be happier.  So we exercise.  Yay us!  We push and discipline ourselves to reach a goal.  But…we are miserable in the process.  We may one day reach our weight loss goal but quickly revert back and gain all the weight back plus more.  However, if we stop, and exercise because we feel good instead of exercising to achieve a weight loss goal, then we can actually enjoy that happiness – our original goal.

We are so busy comparing our bodies to perfectly airbrushed bodies that we never enjoy the benefit of exercise.  Instead, we feel the defeat of failure associated with exercise making exercise the big dread.  And that failure is the perfect body that does not exist (wanting everyone’s ideal body parts perfectly assembled into a nonexistent person or a moment in time picture that makes someone look amazing).

All that said, we also have to find exercise that we love doing.  Quit doing the stuff that makes you miserable.  When done right (for YOU), exercise makes us happy, regulates mood, makes us stronger, concentrate better, improve brain function, improve sleep, live longer, etc.  Be kind to yourself, enjoy it, and most of all – be consistent.

How to Exercise for Weight Loss

The multi-million dollar diet industry feeds on your shame and guilt to make tons of money.  More shame, guilt, and judgment equal you failing and them making more money with a new gimmick every year.  STOP!  Stop dieting.  Stop should-ing.  Stop shaming.  Instead, put the scale on vacation and measure your performance such as more reps, more steps, more home cooked meals, etc.  I will never deny myself of my daughter’s birthday cake, wine tasting with my friends, and simply enjoying life.  Never make this journey miserable.

When to Exercise for Weight Loss

I am a believer of small goals over time making a huge impact.  You have to set time aside and have a routine.  No one gets in the way because this is when you fill up your tank.  Lack of exercise (along with lack of good sleep and good nutrition) creates negative and self-sabotaging brain chemistry.  Find a time that works for you and stick with it.  Make it a system where you never have to decide.

Those who matter want you healthy, strong, confident, ready to jump in that bathing suit on vacation or at a pool party, be in every picture, living life big, and all of what life has to offer.  I’ve heard people who deny themselves and others of joy because they won’t get in the group picture or embarrassed about how they look at the pool.  Is this how you want to live?  I hope that’s a resounding “NO!”.  You deserve joy just as much as the next person. This exercise hack is the key to weight loss, for good.
