Stop dieting; change your lifestyle. We have all been guilty of it. You see something on social media that promises you’ll drop 10lbs in a week. You click the ad and you’re down this rabbit hole of fad dieting. The problem? You fall off the diet wagon and end up right back where you started. Our bodies are pretty amazing if we fuel it properly and not only will you see progress and feel great, but it’ll also last! Here are some basic tips to follow to say goodbye to that four-letter word and hello to a healthier lifestyle.
Stop Dieting & Change Your Lifestyle with Colors
This tip may be a struggle for those that don’t enjoy fresh fruits and vegetables, but our bodies need a variety of whole foods. If this is a struggle for you, start slow by adding a serving of fruit to your breakfast and a serving of vegetables to your dinner each day, then work your way up to adding them into every meal. Have you ever heard of the plate method? This is another great trick. Your plate should consist of 25% protein, 25% carb, and 50% non-starchy vegetables. Also, try avoiding processed foods whenever possible and stick to whole foods. Remember the key is stop dieting and change your lifestyle.
Change Your Lifestyle with Movement
Some of us love to wake up at the crack of dawn and head outside for a run. For others, getting in exercise is a struggle and not very enjoyable. If you have a fitness routine that works for you, great! But if you’re someone that needs a little extra motivation to get up and move, getting up and going for a 10–15-minute walk 2-3 times a week is a great place to start. You can also find ways to move in your day-to-day life such as choosing to take the staircase at work instead of the elevator or parking a little further away from the entrance at the grocery store.
Stay Hydrated for a Healthy Body
Did you know that 90% of our blood is made of water? This is one of the many reasons that staying hydrated is so important. Without proper hydration, our bodies struggle to carry nutrients and oxygen to our cells. Additionally, proper hydration helps us regulate our body temperature, flushes bacteria out of our bodies, and helps us have more energy! Try starting each day with a full 8oz glass of water before you do anything else. Then continue to drink water throughout the day. If you struggle with keeping track of water intake, having a water bottle with you to fill throughout the day can be helpful. If your water bottle is 20oz, then make it a goal to re-fill it four times per day. That’s an easy 80oz of water!
