1 Overlooked Ingredient for Weight Loss

With 2/3 of Americans overweight or obese, so many of us are trying to lose weight.  Every year there’s a new diet:  Atkins, Paleo, zero carb, zero fat, Weight Watchers, Medifast, etc.  All may have very good intentions of helping people get healthy and lose weight, but they all forget one main thing.

We are humans, not robots.  It is not simply calories in and calories out.  We cannot eat astronaut, convenience food or cut out food groups and expect to lose weight.  One, it’s depressing and not sustainable and two, it’s actually makes us gain more weight.  Our body naturally wants to dilute the toxins we ingest by adding more fat to our body.  Plus, yo yo diets (constant weight gain and weight loss) are so taxing on our body, leading to inflammation and serious diseases in the future (cancer, diabetes, heart disease, autoimmune disease, etc).

We HAVE TO fix the root cause of our weight gain and not just put a band-aid by counting calories hoping that our discipline will kick in one of these days and that we won’t be tempted this time around.  We have to address what is really going on.  It could be simple like “drink more water” or it could be fixing our work-life balance, habits, mental outlook, stress, relationships, confidence, or understanding nutrition.

Here’s a client’s letter to share how we lose weight without ever addressing the weight.  She lost 20+ pounds without counting calories or talking about weight.  We worked on shifting our mind and focusing on enriching life and the weight comes off as a side effect. Thank you for sharing.

An open letter to Samantha Hua:

Dear Sam,

When I walked in your door for the first time I was in crisis. I didn’t say that to you. I wasn’t ready to be THAT open. I was still holding on to trying to look like I was holding it together but I needed help. I needed nutrition help. I needed whole body health help. I needed mental help. Emotional help. I felt like a total mess. I didn’t expect you to address the disaster that was unfolding in my mind with me, though. I never thought I’d bring it up. I didn’t, that first day of course. I never thought we would go there. Or that I would be comfortable going there. I thought you’d teach me about nutrition and give me tools to be a person who considered food in a more healthful manner. And that maybe that would be a small part of my being less destructive to myself.

You far surpassed every expectation I had of you. You have been a mirror to me. Showing me all of the wonderful parts of myself that have always been there. That I downplayed. Your ability to help me focus on the positive parts of me and the life I am living while creating a safe place for me to let out all of the ugly parts that I never even thought I would share with you blows my mind. You are real. And I can honestly say that I made the best choice I could have possibly made when I sat down in front of you and said, “Let’s do this” at our first meeting. I didn’t know it at the time. But I’m so glad that I followed my heart and chose you. EVERYTHING has shifted.

There is no better person I could possibly have imagined to walk with me through this time in my life and help me become the best version of myself I could possibly be right now. I will always, ALWAYS be incredibly grateful that our paths in life crossed. And that you chose this work to be your focus. You have an incredible ability to connect with people and your approach to mind/body/spirit health is one that is unparalleled. I would say that you changed my life. But really, you inspired me and showed me how to change my own life which is far more impactful. Thank you from the very bottom of my core for doing what you do. Your passion for uplifting people lives on in me.
